Tanzania Family Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Distance: 50/30 km
On arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport/Arusha airport meet our representative & transfer to Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary at the suburb of Arusha city. This lodge is one of the best lodge in Arusha with great views of Kilimanjaro Mountain. At the game sanctuary you may expect to spot water buffalo, zebra, water buck, eland,monkeys & lots of birds which include peacock, ostrich, saddle billed stock & others. Late our safari manager meet or safari manger fo detailed safari briefing before leaving you to rest and enjoy the game sanctuary & other lodge facilities.
Overnight at Mount Meru Game lodge in Arusha. Dinner and breakfast included.
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Distance: 139 km
Non game driving time: 2 to 3 hrs
On this first day of your Tanzania family trip, after breakfast at your lodge depart for Tarangire National Park, the driving is via Arusha city with chances of any last minutes purchase before heading to the bush. You will drive on the Great Northern Highways & along Masai steppe & many villages, reach the park gate after 2:30 hrs.
Tarangire National Park runs along lines of Tarangire River which is the main water sources in the entire park supporting large animal population especially during the dry season. Larger elephant population, Tarangire River & huge baobab trees are the highlights of this park.
Park’s varied habitats of acacia woodland, open grassland & the river bank are supporting large number of animals which include herds of African elephant, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, warthog & the three rare species of Great Kudu, Fringed Eared Oryx & the ash staling. Predators like lion, cheetah, jackal hyena and the ever-elusive leopard are also inhabit this park. The park is well-known among bird watchers, over 400 bird species where recorded here. Late afternoon during the sunset drive to the lodge for dinner & overnight.

Day 3: Tarangire – Lake Manyara – Lake Eyasi
Distance: Tarangire – Lake Manyara 50 km. Time: 1 to 2 hrs.
Distance: Lake Manyara – Lake Eyasi 80 km. Time 2 to 3 hrs.
After breakfast leave for Lake Manyara National Park, you will firstly, bike from Mto wa Mbu town and along the Lake shore, then a canoeing trip before biking back to Mto wa Mbu. Before noon is a game drive at Lake Manyara National Park.
Manyara Park is at the dramatically location with lots of underground water streams from the Great Rift Valley which makes it green throughout the year. Varied habitat in this park supports large larger number of animal species which include herds of buffalo, giraffe, warthog, zebra, hippos, African elephant and many antelopes.
Lake Manyara Tree climbing lion & colorful flocks of flamingos are the highlights of this park, other predators can also be seen which include leopard, hyena, cheetahs & jackals. In the afternoon drive to Lake Eyasi & visit the Datoga tribe & the blacksmith after, is a sunset walk at the lake shore. Late afternoon drive to the lodge for dinner & overnight.

Day 4: Lake Eyasi – Serengeti National Park
Distance: 170 km
Non game driving time: 3 to 4 hrs.
In this morning Tanzania family trip takes you for an early morning hunting with bushman including tuition on surviving skills. Bushman is a small ethnic group on Northern Tanzania located at Lake Eyasi, this tribe is divided into 3 clans of Tindiga, Hadzabe, & Datoga (The blacksmith) lives in hunting with bow & arrows, gathering of eggs, root tuber & fruits just as much as humankind who lived during the Stone Age.
After return back to the lodge for full breakfast before departing for Serengeti National Park. The driving is along the high lying farmland of Karatu & across Ngorongoro Conservation area, then down to the endless rolling plains of the world rich Serengeti National Park.
Serengeti is the largest National park in northern Tanzania, and it is where the world famous Great Wildebeest Migration spend much time before crossing Mara River and enter the Kenyans Masai Mara game Reserve. Because of its unique feature & enormous wildlife the park is listed in UNESCO’s as a World Heritage site. Game drive en-route to Naabi hills gate and into the Serengeti, you can take your packed lunch at Naabi Hill gate or at the kopjes (rock outcropping) before starting your game afternoon drive in the vast Serengeti plain searching for Wildebeest Migration (from December to mid-August), you may expect to spot herds of zebra, African elephant, giraffe, hippos, baboons, warthog, lion, cheetah, hyena, jackals leopard and many more. For bird watchers this is the place stocks, pelicans, secretary bird, ostrich and others can be seen on the way. Reach the lodge during or before the sunset for dinner & overnight.

Day 5 – 6: Full Day of Game Drives in Serengeti
One of these 2 days you will start as early as 06:30 and go for sunrise game drive in the vast Serengeti, you will leave with breakfast box & lunch box. Early morning game drive can allow you to spot cat family on the road as they avoid morning mist. You may also see other nocturnal predators coming back after their long night of hunting & other animal waking up ready to start another new day in the Serengeti or group of lioness planning a morning ambush.
If the Wildebeest Migration will be packed in Serengeti you may go straight to where they are & spend much time with the herds with some possibility of seen animal actions like eating, playing, fighting, killing and so forth. Breakfast & lunch break will depend on where you are.
Your 2nd day in Serengeti you may decide to start early or late & spend this lively day in the wild Serengeti doing game drives. In the afternoon after lunch depending on where you are, you can visit Seronera visitor’s center for some interesting documentation about the Serengeti. Embank to your sunset game drive & back to the lodge a bit early so that kids can enjoy the swimming pool in the hot Serengeti.

Day 7: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater
Distance: About 170 km
Non game driving time: 3 to 4 hrs.
After breakfast Tanzania family trip and Zanzibar beach holidays leave for Ngorongoro crater. (Option) On the way you will visit Masai Boma (tradition village) a tradition welcome by Masai warriors before they take you around and explain how they live traditionally and harmoniously with wildlife. They will perform their famous jumping dance and they will welcome you to join in if you like, afterward you can go inside their houses, meet children, take picture and ask questions.
Afterward, you will drive to Ngorongoro highlands (2,300 m) and descent 600 m into the crater floor for game wonderful drive. Ngorongoro Crater is often refers as among the wonders of the world, its adequate water supply yearly around & fodders the crater supports a big number of animals which include wildebeest, zebra, African elephants, hippos and the rare species of black rhino.
This picturesque National park has denser population of predators which include lion, hyena, cheetah, jackal & the ever elusive leopard that sometime require trained eye to spot.
You will also visit Lake Magadi a large but shallow salt lake at the southwest corner of the park frequently host some hippos, flocks of flamingos & other aquatic birds. Late afternoon drive to Endoro Lodge at Karatu town for dinner & overnight.

Day 8: Ngorongoro – Arusha – Zanzibar
Distance: About 155 km
After leisurely breakfast, start your way to Arusha airport for your afternoon flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar airport meet our representative & transfer to your beach hotel. You will go through the program for Zanzibar with him before leaving you to enjoy some days on the beach.
Overnight at Ocean Paradise Beach Resort on the Northeast beaches of Zanzibar Island or similar. Diner and breakfast included.
Day 9 – 11: Zanzibar beach
Tanzania family trip wishes you relaxing days in Zanzibar while enjoying the warm water & white sand beaches. If you wish you can organized some sea sports with your resort.
Overnight at Ocean Paradise Beach or Similar. Dinner and breakfast included.
Day 12: Transfer from Beach to Stone Town
On this day we will take you to our Stone Town, on the way you will visit the Spice plantations and tour around with our knowledgeable guide who will give you in depth information about spices & organically grown herbs on the Island, he will explain their traditional uses in cooking, cosmetics and in medicine. Afterward you will test some of the tropical fruits like Jacky fruit, durian, passion fruit, banana and others. Late we will take you to our spice restaurant for delicious local lunch cooked with different spices. After lunch & some rest drive to Tembo House hotel or Dhow Palace hotel in Stone town. Spend the afternoon in your hotel possibly walking around the town on you own.

Day 13: (Day at leisure) A day to explore the Stone Town

Day 14: Departure Transfer
After breakfast, depending on your departure time you can go for walks along the narrow lines of Stone. Then back to the hotel for refreshing before we transfer you to Zanzibar airport for your flight back home. If flying out of Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro a domestic flight can be arranged at extra cost.
Transfer to Zanzibar airport from Stone Town takes less than ten minutes.
